Dow, S&P 500 open with new record highs
Precious metals reversed course to dive in negative territory; gold losing 0.9%, silver down 2%

ANKARA (AA) - The Dow Jones and the S&P 500 in the US opened Tuesday with new record levels.
The blue-chip Dow Jones climbed to 35,865.53 points shortly after the opening bell at 9.30 a.m. EDT with JPMorgan and Walt Disney adding 0.3% and 0.2%, respectively.
The S&P 500 rose to 4,590.61 as Tesla jumped 1.6% -- the day after the electric carmaker’s market value hit $1 trillion.
The Nasdaq was up 115 points, or 0.76%, to 15,340 at 9.41 a.m. with Uber, Zoom and GameStop each adding more than 1.2% apiece.
The yield on 10-year US Treasury notes was down 0.1% to 1.633%, while the VIX volatility index, known as the fear index, fell 1.4% to 15.02.
The dollar index increased 0.1% to 93.89.
While international benchmark Brent crude was trading at $85.22 with a 0.06% gain, the US benchmark West Texas Intermediate was down 0.14% to $83.54.
Precious metals made an about-face and were in negative territory with gold losing 0.9% to $1,792 per ounce and silver decreasing 2% to $24.07.
Bitcoin was trading at $62,300 with a 1.5% loss.
