HEBRON, Palestine (AA) – Dozens of Palestinians were injured in clashes with Israeli forces in the West Bank city of Hebron on Wednesday, according to a local Palestinian NGO.
Israeli troops raided the house of Hamzah Zamara, 19, in the Hebron town of Halhoul, triggering clashes with local residents.
The raid came shortly after Zamara was martyred by Israeli forces after he allegedly wounded an Israeli security guard in a stabbing attack in Hebron.
In a statement, the Palestinian Red Crescent said nine Palestinians were injured by rubber bullets during the clashes, while 19 others suffered temporary teargas asphyxiation and were treated on the spot.
On Tuesday, Ahmed Jarrar, a 22-year-old Palestinian youth, was martyred by Israeli forces in the West Bank city of Jenin for allegedly killing a Jewish settler in a drive-by shooting in Nablus last month.
The Palestinian territories have remained dogged by tension since U.S. President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital on Dec. 6.
The move has triggered world outcry and sparked angry protests in the Palestinian territories -- and multiple clashes with Israeli troops -- that have left at least 25 Palestinians dead.
