ARU, Democratic Republic of Congo (AA) - Authorities Friday said they are searching for two International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) workers, who were abducted on Wednesday in the country’s North Kivu province.
“We are making all efforts to get them,” said Lt. Andrew Masombo, a security official in North Kivu province.
He said they suspect the abduction was carried out by militiamen.
A statement issued by ICRC said, ''We deeply deplore this abduction and are doing everything possible to ensure that our colleagues can find their families as soon as possible," said Christine Cipolla, head of the ICRC delegation in the country.
Cipolla called on the kidnappers to immediately release their colleagues.
The ICRC has suspended its activities of food and essential commodities distribution in that area until further notice.
In March 2017, two UN workers were killed by suspected militiamen in Kasai region.
