Drone, missile attacks target Kurdish armed groups in Iraq

Iran's Revolutionary Guard previously launched attacks on Kurdish armed groups in northern Iraq

ERBIL, Iraq (AA) – Missile and drone attacks targeted the headquarters of two Kurdish armed groups in northern Iraq on Monday, according to Iraqi media.

The office of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (IKDP) was struck by missiles in the town of Koy Sanjaq, state media reports said.

Drones also targeted the office of Komala Party in the town of Zirguez in northern Iraq, the reports said.

A statement by the Anti-Terrorism Unit in the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) blamed Iran for the attacks.

The statement, however, did not provide any word on casualties or damage.

There was no comment yet from Iran on the accusation.

The offices of the two Kurdish groups came under similar drone and missile attacks from Iran last week.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had previously launched attacks on Kurdish armed groups in northern Iraq, accusing them of fanning anti-government protests in Iran.

Iran has been rocked by nationwide protests since September over the death of a 22-year-old Iranian woman in police custody.

Tehran has long accused Kurdish armed groups in northern Iraq of carrying out destabilizing activities in the border region between the two countries.
