Egypt court jails 27 policemen for ‘disrupting’ work

Wednesday’s verdict is final and cannot be appealed

CAIRO (AA) – Egypt's highest appellate court has upheld prison sentences against 27 policemen for “disrupting” the flow of work, according to the official MENA news agency on Wednesday.

The policemen were slapped with a 3-year jail term and a 6,000 pound ($343) fine each by a lower court on charges of disrupting work after staging a strike in 2017 against a decision to reduce their vacations.

The policemen filed appeals against the verdict, but the Court of Cassation on Wednesday upheld the ruling.

The court also acquitted 13 other policemen in the same case.

Wednesday’s verdict is final and cannot be appealed.
