Egypt intelligence delegation in Gaza for truce talks

The delegation will hold talks with leaders of Hamas and other Palestinian factions

GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – An Egyptian intelligence delegation arrived in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday as part of a shuttle diplomacy to reach a ceasefire deal between Palestinian factions and Israel.

The delegation is expected to hold talks with leaders of Palestinian group Hamas and other factions, a Palestinian source said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

For the past months, Egyptian officials have engaged in intense shuttle diplomacy between the Gaza Strip, the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Israel.

The stepped-up diplomatic efforts are aimed at hammering out a truce between Israel and Hamas and encouraging reconciliation between Hamas and rival Palestinian faction Fatah.
