Egypt to host tripartite ministerial meeting on Libya

CAIRO (AA) – Egypt will host an Arab ministerial meeting on Tuesday to discuss the situation in conflict-ridden Libya.

The meeting will bring together the foreign ministers of Egypt, Algeria and Tunisia for talks on the Libyan crisis, the state-run Al-Ahram newspaper reported Monday.

No details were provided about the content of the meeting.

The Egyptian authorities have yet to confirm the meeting.

In early 2017, the three countries unveiled a tripartite initiative to advance a political settlement to the crisis in Libya that called for rejecting any military solution to the Libyan conflict.

Libya has been beset by turmoil since 2011, when a bloody NATO-backed uprising led to the ouster and death of strongman Muammar Gaddafi after more than four decades in power.

Since then, Libya’s stark political divisions have yielded two rival seats of power -- one in Tobruk and another in Tripoli -- and a host of heavily armed militia groups.
