Egyptian diplomat takes office as Arab League chief in July
Abul-Gheit will be the league’s 8th secretary-general since the body was established in 1945

CAIRO (AA) - Former Egyptian foreign minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit will assume his post as the new Arab League Secretary-General this week.
Abul-Gheit was elected as the new head of the Cairo-based body in March, replacing Nabil al-Arabi, who term expires this month.
“Abul-Gheit will take office on July 1,” a source in the league’s general secretariat said in a statement.
Abul-Gheit will be the league’s 8th secretary-general since the body was established in 1945.
He will serve a renewable 5-year term.
