Iconic landmark to be re-opened after package is disposed of, police say

PARIS (AA) - The Eiffel Tower was evacuated late Friday after security services spotted a suspicious package, police said.
The iconic landmark was evacuated over an "abandoned package," according to a statement by the Paris Police Prefecture.
The tower will be re-opened after the package is disposed of, the statement said, without giving any further details.
France has been under a state of emergency and high terror alert since a Daesh-blamed attack last November killed 130 people across Paris.
There have been several terrorist attacks in France over the past few months. A truck attack in Nice in July killed 84 people, including 10 children, and wounded more than 100 others.
On November 13, 2015, a coordinated armed attack in Paris, killed 130 people and wounded 368 others. Daesh had claimed responsibility for the attack.
On January 7, 2015, an armed attack at the headquarters of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris left 12 people, including one policeman, dead; 11 others were wounded.
On January 9, 2015, one of the Charlie Hebdo attackers had taken customers at a Jewish market near Vienne region as hostages and killed four people after killing a policeman in Paris.
The attacker was also killed in a security operation. Said and Sharif Kouachi Brothers, who were among the Charlie Hebdo attackers, took a woman as a hostage in a press near Dammartin-en-Goële region in the northern east part of the French capital.
Following a police operation, the brothers were also killed and a hostage was saved.
