Elderly woman dies after 'hit and run' in Ireland

LONDON (AA) - A woman, believed to be at her 80s, died on Friday after struck by a car in Ireland, according to local media.

The incident took place in Country Galway, western Ireland at 5 p.m., and the driver left the scene following the crash.

The seriously injured woman was taken to University Hospital Galway but succumbed to her injuries, the Irish Times reported, citing the Ireland police department Gardai.

The Old Limerick Road, where the accident occurred, was closed for an examination by police, it added.
