AZAZ/ANKARA (AA) - Northern Iraq’s Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) on Thursday denied reports that it had dispatched an aid convoy to areas of Syria held by the YPG/PKK terrorist group.

KRG spokesman Safin Dizayi told Anadolu Agency that no aid convoys had been dispatched to Syria’s YPG/PKK-held Ayn al-Arab (Kobane) district, as was previously claimed.

“Sending such a convoy [to YPG/PKK-held areas] is unthinkable,” he said. “But Erbil remains prepared to send aid to civilian residents of the region if needed.”

Earlier Thursday, local sources told Anadolu Agency that nearly 200 trucks laden with humanitarian aid -- and munitions -- had passed through the Semalka border crossing linking Iraq’s Kurdish region to northern Syria.

According to the same sources, the convoy entered Syrian territory with the help of U.S.-led coalition forces deployed in the area.
