Erdogan meets leaders on sidelines of NATO summit

Turkish president holds series of meetings with French, Italian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Azerbaijani and Bosnian leaders

BRUSSELS – (AA) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday continued to hold talks with heads of state and government on the second and final day of the NATO summit in Brussels.

Erdogan held bilateral talks with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Bulgarian President Rumen Radev on the sidelines of the NATO summit in closed-door meetings.

He also spoke to French President Emmanuel Macron during a 75-minute meeting. National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin also attended the meeting.

The Turkish leader also held trilateral talks with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev and the Bosniak member of the tripartite Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegovic.

Earlier, as part of the NATO summit, Erdogan attended the third session of NATO heads of state and government as well as one on on Afghanistan.

The two-day NATO summit started with the attendance of 29 NATO heads of state and government to make important decisions on the future of the alliance.
