Ethiopia: 2 charity staff killed in Gambella region

International charity organization in Ethiopia since 1985, reached over 832,800 people in the country in 2018, it says

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AA) - Action Against Hunger, an international charity organization, claimed two of its staff members were killed in the Gambella region of Ethiopia.

"Team members were in transit from our 24-hour pediatric Nutrition Stabilization Center in Nguenyyiel Refugee Camp when they were ambushed by armed individuals [during the morning hours of Thursday]," the organization said in a press release.

Two employees were killed at the scene, according to the release.

The organization said it suspended full operations in Gambella, but maintaining the provision of life-saving assistance.

"We are coordinating with the authorities who are investigating this attack," it added.

Action Against Hunger has worked in Ethiopia since 1985.

In 2018 alone, it reached some 832,829 people in the country, said the statement.
