EU adds 1 group, 2 people to Daesh/ISIS, al-Qaeda sanctions list

ANKARA (AA) – The EU on Monday added a group and two people to its list of sanctions against the Daesh/ISIS and al-Qaeda terrorist organizations.

“The measures target Hurras al-Din, a Syria-based al-Qaeda affiliated group, its leader Faruq al-Suri, and its religious leader Sami al-Aridi,” read a statement from the European Council.

The group has been “involved in the planning of external terrorist operations” and “established operational camps in Syria that provide terrorist training to its members,” the statement said.

“Several European foreign terrorist fighters have joined the group’s ranks since its creation,” it added.

The statement said Hurras al-Din and its two leaders “pose a serious and continued threat to the EU and to regional and international stability.”

The EU sanctions list against Daesh/ISIS and al-Qaeda now includes 10 people and three groups.

The restrictive measures include a travel ban and an asset freeze, while EU citizens and companies are prohibited from providing funds and economic resources to individuals and groups on the list.
