EU commercial vehicle market shrinks 14.6% last year

ISTANBUL (AA) - Commercial vehicle sales dropped 14.6% to 1.6 million units last year in the EU on a yearly basis, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) said on Wednesday.

Commercial vehicle sales were even below the pandemic year of 2021, when sales totaled 1.7 million units, the association said.

The decline stemmed from ongoing supply chain problems which affected vehicle availability, it added.

Sales decreased in key markets sharply: France by 17.7%, Spain 16.7%, Germany 11.0%, and Italy 10.5%.

During the last year, 1.3 million new light commercial vehicles were registered in the EU, down 18.1% on a yearly basis.

Almost 300,000 trucks, more than 256,000 heavy trucks, and nearly 28,400 buses and coaches were also registered in the union last year.

In December alone, commercial vehicle sales rose 5.1% on a yearly basis.
