Bloc calls on interim Taliban administration to fulfil its international law obligations to protect civilians and bring perpetrators to justice

BRUSSELS (AA) – The European Union condemned on Friday “in the strongest possible terms” the terror attack on an educational center in Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul.

“This is another heinous crime and a violation of international humanitarian law,” said Nabila Massrali, spokesperson for the EU diplomatic service, in a statement.

She stated that the attack is yet another example of terrorists targeting innocent civilians.

"The EU calls on the de facto authorities to carry out their international law obligations to protect the population and bring perpetrators to justice," she added.

Earlier on Friday, a suicide bomber blew himself up at Kaaj educational center while students were taking an exam.

At least 19 people were killed, and another 28 were injured.

Last week, a car bomb exploded outside a mosque in the capital as worshippers were leaving after Friday prayers, killing at least seven people and injuring 41 others, including children.

Earlier this month, two Russian embassy employees were killed in a suicide attack outside the Russian Embassy in Kabul.

On Sept. 2 in western Herat city, Mulawai Mujeebur Rehman Ansari, a well-known pro-Taliban Islamic preacher, was among 18 people killed when a suicide bomber blew himself up during Friday prayers.

The attack was claimed by the terrorist group Daesh/ISIS.

In recent months, the terrorist organization has intensified its activity in many parts of the country, posing a threat to the Taliban's security, which regained power in August of last year.
