Eurasian countries register new virus cases, deaths

Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan report new coronavirus cases, fatalities

BAKU, Azerbaijan (AA) - More cases of the novel coronavirus and fatalities related to the disease were reported in several Eurasian and Central Asian countries on Monday.


- Ukraine

The death toll in Ukraine reached 3,583 with 26 more fatalities reported over the past 24 hours, the country’s Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said.

Confirming another 2,675 cases that brought the total to 178,353, the minister added that 78,184 have recovered from the virus, so far.

- Uzbekistan

As many as 355 new virus cases brought Uzbekistan's tally to 51,789.

Four more fatalities raised the death toll to 435, while recoveries rose to 47,932, according to the Health Ministry.

It added that there were currently 3,422 active cases in the country.

- Georgia

The case count in Georgia reached 3,736 with 193 cases over the past day.

The death toll has reached 20, with one more fatality.

A total of 1,534 patients have so far recovered in the country, while nearly 5,000 people are still under quarantine.

- Armenia

Armenia’s case count increased by 121 to reach 47,552.

Six more virus-related fatalities moved the death toll to 936, while recoveries stand at 42,637.

- Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan reported 55 more cases, raising its total to 45,471.

The death toll remains at 1,063, while the number of recoveries stands at 41,682 with 104 additions.

- Kazakhstan

In Kazakhstan, 45 new infections raised the overall count to 107,307.

Recoveries increased by 64 to reach 101,914, while four fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,699, the Health Ministry said.

- Tajikistan

Tajikistan reported 43 more cases of the coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the overall count to 9,346, including 73 deaths.

A total of 8,108 patients have recovered so far, while 1,165 remain under treatment.

- Worldwide

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed nearly 961,000 lives in 188 countries and regions since it originated in China last December. The US, India and Brazil are currently the worst-hit countries.

Over 31.07 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries exceeding 21.26 million, according to figures compiled by the US-based Johns Hopkins University.
