Eurasian countries see rising coronavirus numbers

MOSCOW (AA) - While some nations in Europe are looking to lift coronavirus restrictions, several Eastern European and Central Asian nations are seeing their case numbers rise.

- Azerbaijan

The number of cases rose to 1,717 with 39 additions, and the number of recoveries climbed to 1,221 with 59 more.

A total of 474 people in the country are in treatment, and 22 people have died from coronavirus so far.

- Belarus

Belarus’ Health Ministry announced 919 more people caught the virus, raising the tally to 12,208 nationwide.

The death toll in the country has risen to 79, while 1,998 patients have recovered so far.

- Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan’s Health Ministry said that in the country, the number of cases rose 37, reaching 3,019.

Also, to date 774 people have recovered.

- Kyrgyzstan

In Kyrgyzstan, the total number of cases reached 708 and eight people have died from the virus.

A total of 416 people have recovered from the virus.

The country’s National Security Council decided to continue the state of emergency till April 30 in the capital city of Bishkek, as well as in Osh and Celalabad, and the At-Basi district in the Narin region.

- Uzbekistan

In Uzbekistan, 15 more people contracted the virus, bringing the tally to 1,939, while 992 people recovered from the disease and so far eight lost their lives.

- Moldova

According to Health Ministry data, the number of fatalities rose by one to reach 104, and the number of cases climbed to 3,638 after 157 more people were found to have the virus.

The number of recoveries so far in the country totals 975.

After originating in China last December, COVID-19 has spread to at least 185 countries and regions. Europe and the US are currently the worst-hit regions.

The pandemic has killed over 215,000 people, with total infections at 3.09 million, while some 920,000 have recovered so far, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.
