Eurasian nations register new virus cases, deaths

KIEV (AA) - Coronavirus cases and fatalities continued to rise across Eurasia on Thursday.

- Kazakhstan

In the Central Asian country of Kazakhstan, new cases rose by 1,509 to reach 42,574. A total of 14,059 patients have recovered and 188 people have died due to the virus.

The country announced to implement a 14-day-quarantine procedure as of July 5.

As part of the quarantine measures, working hours of the mass transportation will be limited, and activities in the sport facilities, museums and cinemas will be suspended.

- Ukraine

Ukrainian officials reported 889 more cases over the past 24 hours, raising the overall count to 45,887 in the country.

Twelve more fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,185, while recoveries climbed to 20,053 with 505 additions.

The country extended quarantine procedures until July 31 as the virus continues to spread.

- Armenia

Cases increased to 26,658 in Caucasian country of Armenia, as 593 more people contracted COVID-19 over the past day, according to Health Ministry data.

Six more people died of the virus, raising the toll to 459.

A total of 115,765 tests have been performed in the country, while 15,036 patients have recovered and the treatment of 11,010 continues.

- Kyrgyzstan

In Kyrgyzstan, 526 more people tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the tally to 6,261, including 2,530 recoveries.

Most of the cases were seen in the Chuy Region, including the capital Bishkek.

To date, 66 people have died from COVID-19 in the country.

- Uzbekistan

In Uzbekistan, 233 people tested positive for COVID-19, raising the total to 8,904, including 27 deaths and 5,847 recoveries.

The Central Asian country has carried out 1.2 million tests.

A total of 3,030 patients are still under treatment and 64,000 are under surveillance in hospitals.

- Georgia

Georgia reported eight new cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the tally to 942.

A total of 817 people have recovered so far.

As many as 242 people are under surveillance in hospitals and 3,080 are in quarantine.

- Worldwide

Over 516,700 people have died in at least 188 countries and regions since the virus emerged in China last December.

Nearly 10.71 million cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries nearing 5.5 million, according to figures compiled by the US' Johns Hopkins University.

The US, Brazil, Russia, and India are currently the worst-hit countries in the world.
