Eurasian nations report new coronavirus cases, deaths

Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Armenia and Georgia, report new cases, deaths

NUR-SULTAN, Kazakhstan (AA) - Coronavirus cases and fatalities continued to rise across Eurasian and Central Asian countries on Tuesday.

- Kazakhstan

In the Central Asian country of Kazakhstan, new cases rose by 1,630 to reach a total of 73,468.

The total number of recoveries increased to 45,376, while the death toll in the country reached 585, the Health Ministry said.

- Kyrgyzstan

In Kyrgyzstan, 1,108 more people tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the tally to 27,251, including 14,776 recoveries.

- Ukraine

According to a Health Ministry statement, 673 more virus cases were reported over the past 24 hours, raising the overall count to 60,166.

As many as 20 more fatalities in the country pushed the death toll to 1,518, while recoveries climbed to 32,199 with 760 additions.

- Uzbekistan

In Uzbekistan, 441 more people contracted the virus, raising the tally to 17,590.

Two more fatalities brought the toll to 92, while 76 more recoveries over the past 24 hours raised the total to 9,463.

The Health Ministry said 8,035 people were currently receiving treatment.

- Armenia

The virus cases in Armenia increased to 35,254, as 273 more people contracted COVID-19 over the past day, according to Health Ministry data.

Twelve more people died of the virus, raising the toll to 662. As many as 24,206 patients have recovered, while the treatment of more than 10,000 continues.

Over 148,000 tests have been performed in the country.

The state of emergency announced in March due to the pandemic was extended until Aug. 12.

- Georgia

At least ten new COVID-19 cases were found in Georgia on Tuesday, bringing the overall count to 1,090.

The death toll in the country stood at 16, while 903 patients have recovered so far.

More than 5,500 people have been quarantined.

- Global situation

Across the world, COVID-19 has claimed nearly 610,300 lives in 188 countries and regions since emerging in China last December.

More than 14.72 million cases have been reported worldwide, with the US, Brazil, India, and Russia currently being the worst-hit countries, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.

The data shows more than half of all people infected with the virus worldwide -- over 8.31 million -- have recovered so far.
