Euro 2016: England beats Wales in 'Battle of Britain'

PARIS (AA) - England came back from behind and stunned Wales 2-1 in their second Euro 2016 Group B game on Thursday at the Stade Felix Bollaert-Delelis in Lens.

Gareth Bale gave Wales the lead in the 42nd minute, with a 25-meter free-kick that England's goalkeeper Joe Hart got his hands on, but couldn’t keep out his left-hand post.

In the 56th minute, England went level with Jamie Vardy, who just came off the bench, smashing the ball past Wales’s Wayne Hennessey.

This goal made Vardy the first Leicester player to score for England in a major tournament.

In the extra time, in the 92nd-minute, Daniel Sturridge gave England a 2-1 advantage from a Dele Alli pass.

The Three Lions' Euro 2016 campaign got off to a disappointing start as they drew with Russia, despite dominating for large periods. Wales, meanwhile, defeated Slovakia 2-1 and have ramped up the pressure ahead of the Group B encounter.
