Euro area goods exports down in November 2019

EU's goods trade surplus reaches nearly $2.9B in month, compared with deficit of $4.4 billion in November 2018, says Eurostat

ANKARA (AA) - The EU exported goods worth €172.7 billion ($192.5 billion) in November 2019, down by 0.1% compared with the same month in 2018, Eurostat announced Wednesday.

"Imports from the rest of the world stood at €170.1 billion [$189.5 billion], down by 3.8% compared with November 2018 (€176.8 bn)," Eurostat said.

It also added the EU recorded a €2.6 billion ($2.9 billion) surplus in trade in goods with the rest of the world in November 2019, compared with a deficit of €4 billion ($4.4 billion) in November 2018.

The trade of goods among the 28 EU member states fell to €302.5 ($337.3 billion) in November 2019, down by 4.6% compared with November 2018.

In January to November 2019, Germany was the top exporter of goods -- both in trade within the union and with the rest of the world -- with €1.2 trillion ($1.3 trillion), followed by the Netherlands with €581.75 billion ($648.4 billion) and France with €467.2 billion ($520.8 billion).

The U.S., China, Switzerland, Russia, Turkey, Norway, Japan, South Korea, India and Canada were the EU28’s top trade partners in the same period.

Turkey's exports to the EU28 decreased 7.1% to reach €67 billion ($74.7 billion), while its imports from the EU28 valued at €74 billion ($82.5 billion), up 5.3% in January to November 2019, compared with the same period in 2018.
