European stock markets close lower except UK

ANKARA (AA) - European stock markets closed lower on Monday, except for in the UK.

The STOXX Europe 600, which includes around 90% of the market capitalization of the European market in 17 countries, was down 2.58 points, or 0.62%, to finish at 413.39.

Germany's DAX 30 was the day's worst performer, plummeting 289 points, or 2.22%, to close at 12,760.

France's CAC 40 fell 74 points, or 1.2%, to end at 6,093.

Italy's FTSE MIB was down 441 points, or 2%, to 21,480. Spain's IBEX 35 fell 69 points, or 0.88%, to 7,862 at the closing bell.

On the day the Conservative Party chose a new prime minister, the UK's FTSE 100, on the other hand, rose 6 points, or 0.1%, to finish at 7,287.
