European stocks close higher except for UK exchange

This comes as Eurostat figures show unemployment fell to 6.5% in euro area, 6% in EU in October

ISTANBUL (AA) - European stocks closed with gains on Thursday, except for the UK exchange, with a decline in unemployment.

The STOXX Europe 600, which includes around 90% of the market capitalization of the European market in 17 countries, was up 3.92 points, or 0.89%, at 443.96.

Germany’s DAX 30 rose 93 points, or 0.65%, to finish the fourth trading day of the week at 14,490.

France’s CAC 40 gained 15 points, or 0.23%, to 6,753, Italy’s FTSE MIB rose 75 points, or 0.31%, to 24,685 at the closing bell.

Spain’s IBEX 35 increased 44 points, or 0.53%, to finish at 8,407.

The UK’s FTSE 100, on the other hand, shed 14 points, or 0.19%, to close at 7,558.

Euro area unemployment rate came in at 6.5% in October, down from 6.6% in September, Eurostat announced earlier in the day.

EU unemployment rate was 6% in October, down from 6.1% in September, according to the EU's statistical office.
