EU's agricultural land prices: Highest in Netherlands, lowest in Croatia
At regional level, Spain's Canary Islands records maximum price
By Gokhan Ergocun
ISTANBUL (AA) - While the Netherlands saw the highest average purchase price for agricultural lands, Croatia posted the minimum price, the 27-member bloc's statistical office said on Tuesday.
The price per hectare in the Netherlands was €69,632 ($79,142), versus just €3,440 in Croatia, in recent averages announced by Eurostat.
While the average price is around €10,000 across Spain, the highest prices for arable land in the union were seen in Spain’s Canary Islands – €120,477 per hectare.
"At the regional level, a hectare of arable land cost least in the South-West region (Yugozapaden) of Bulgaria (an average €2,051)," it added.
Land prices depend on laws, climate, proximity to networks, soil quality, slope, drainage, and market conditions.
