Ex-army contractor announces Egypt rescue roadmap

LONDON (AA) - Former Egyptian army contractor Mohamed Ali announced a "comprehensive reform roadmap to rescue Egypt" from the current regime on Wednesday.

Speaking at a press conference in London, Ali said the existence of the current Egyptian regime is "both a threat to Egyptians and to the regional interests of the European countries".

Mohamed Ali said he is now building a unified Egyptian opposition front regardless of agenda and beliefs under one national project.

His plan will include Egyptian specialists in education, economy, health, scientific research and media who will work closely with leading political figures to offer a real alternative for the Egyptian people in the post-Sisi era, he said.

Ali said in a recent interview with Anadolu Agency in Spain where he lives in exile that he will leave no stone unturned to push for the departure of President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi.

Almost two months after prompting rare demonstrations in Egypt, Ali claimed massive corruption in Egypt under al-Sisi's rule.

Ali has posted several videos from exile, in which he accused the military of corruption, while al-Sisi denied the accusations as "false" and a "conspiracy".

Ali said he will announce a number of events and activities to bring down Sisi’s regime.

Mohamed Ali also called for the immediate release of Radwa Mohammed who was "incarcerated after releasing more videos exposing corruption by the Sisi regime".

In September, hundreds of protesters demonstrated in central Cairo and several cities against al-Sisi, the former army general who came in power in 2014 after ousting democratically elected president Mohamed Morsi a year earlier.

The protests came in response to calls for al-Sisi to step down by Mohamed Ali.

Over 350 people were arrested across the country in the latest wave of demonstrations.
