Exodus Deja-Vu photo exhibition opens in Thailand

ANKARA (AA) - A new exhibition in Thailand, focusing on refugee crises across the world and showcasing the work of 12 renowned photojournalists and awarded photographers, opened its doors to the public on Friday.

Curated by Patrice Vallette and his team, the exhibition will be open to the public on Nov. 8-30 at the House of Photography in Thailand’s northern city of Chiang Mai.

Anadolu Agency will serve as the global communication partner of the event.

The Exodus Deja-Vu exhibition, which aims to be a "first step towards a change" and an "improvement" in the situation of refugees around the world, brings the masterpieces and knowledge of famous photojournalists who closely followed and captured their perilous journeys, according to the website of the project.

"Indeed, the purpose of this project is to create constructive dialogues based on photographs representing the serious and hard reality that millions of people are experiencing," according to Visioncy, a Malaysia-based international cultural agency, which organized the exhibition.

The name of the project, "Deja-Vu", refers to the dreadful fact that the current refugee situation is not a new one, but has been repeating itself throughout history, Visioncy said on its website.

Exodus Deja-Vu is organized annually with the participation of several photojournalists and photographers.

This year, the exhibition featured photographers, including Turkish photographer Coskun Aral, Issa Touma from Syria, Roland Neveu from France, Kuala Lumpur-based photographer Rahman Roslan, Venezuelan photographer Fabiola Ferreroand, and photographer Yalda Moaiery from Iran.

Photojournalists, Suthep Kritsanavarin from Thailand, and Jean Chung from South Korea, as well as Southeast Asia-based American/Canadian documentary photographer Greg Constantine also took part this year.

Anadolu Agency photojournalist Atilgan Ozdil, based in New York City, also contributed to the exhibition.

Sergey Ponomarev from Russia -- who ranked first in the single-photograph category in Anadolu Agency's Istanbul Photo Awards 2016 and right after won a Pulitzer Prize for the same photo -- was another photographer contributing to the exhibition.

The exhibition also featured work by Mexican photojournalist Guillermo Arias -- who got the top prize in the story news category of Anadolu Agency's Istanbul Photo Awards 2019.
