Far-right deputy minister resigns from Israeli government

Resignation is first in Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition government

By Ahmed Asmar

ANKARA (AA) – Israeli Deputy Minister Avi Moaz resigned Monday from the coalition government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Moaz, who heads the far-right Noam Party, attributed his resignation to the failure of Netanyahu’s government to fulfil its promises under the coalition agreement.

"To my astonishment, I discovered that there is no true intention to uphold the coalition agreement regarding the National Jewish Identity Authority,” he said in his resignation letter.

The authority was created with a view to promoting the Jewish identity in Israel.

Moaz’s resignation is the first in Netanyahu’s coalition government since its formation in December 2022.

Moaz and his party are known for supporting the regulation of Jewish religious laws, including gender separation and anti-LGBT issues.
