FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2019 to tip off on Thursday

Turkish team to face Italy in their first match of tournament

ISTANBUL (AA) - The FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2019 will start on Thursday.

A women's basketball tournament will be held in Latvia and Serbia from June 27 to July 7.

Sweden will face Montenegro in the opening match of the tournament.

A total of 16 teams will compete in the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2019. Latvia and Serbia were directly qualified for the tournament as the host nations.

The top six teams of the women’s basketball contest will qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Turkey's women basketball team set their sights on qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics by succeeding in the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2019.

Turkey will be in the Group C with Italy, Slovenia and Hungary.

On Thursday, Turkish team will face Italian rivals in their first match of the tournament.

The groups are as follows:

The Group A: Ukraine, Great Britain, Latvia, Spain

The Group B: Sweden, France, Czech Republic, Montenegro

The Group C: Turkey, Italy, Slovenia, Hungary

The Group D: Belarus, Russia, Belgium, Serbia
