FIBA World Cup: Serbia to face Argentina in quarters

Serbia takes on Argentina, Spain vs. Poland as basketball World Cup's quarterfinal matches tip off

ANKARA (AA) - European basketball powerhouse Serbia is set to take on Argentina in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup as the tournament's quarterfinals tip off on Tuesday.

Basketball fans in the Chinese city of Dongguan will see two important basketball ecoles, Serbia and Argentina as these teams will fight to be in the World Cup semis.

Serbia ended the second round's Group J in the second spot to play against Group I winner Argentina in the quarterfinals.

Serbia had four wins and one loss in the China 2019, Argentina is still unbeaten, winning all their five matches in the first and second rounds.

Sacramento Kings' player Bogdan Bogdanovic would be Serbia's most important threat as the 27-year-old shooting guard averaged 20.6 points and 4.8 assists in China 2019.

In addition to Bogdanovic, Serbian power forward Nikola Jokic would be a key player for Serbia against Argentina.

The Denver Nuggets forward averaged 12 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists in the World Cup so far.

Forward Nemanja Bjelica is another Serbian player that the team should rely on.

Sacramento Kings' forward managed to tally 11.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game average in China.

Real Madrid point guard Facundo Campazzo and Shanghai Sharks power forward Luis Scola are the leaders for Argentina in this tournament.

In addition to them, Real Madrid small forward Gabriel Deck has been a leading player for the South American team in China.

Argentinian playmaker Campazzo averaged 13 points and 7.2 assists in this World Cup.

His teammate, Deck played with a 12.2-point-average in China.

Scola, 39, is the oldest player in the Argentina squad as this team counts on his experience.

Playing as power forward, Scola averaged 17.4 points and 7.8 rebounds in China 2019.

Argentina last met Serbia in the 2010 FIBA World Championship hosted by Turkey.

Serbia won that match 84-82 in which Scola scored 32 points and had seven rebounds.
