ANKARA (AA) - Finland's foreign minister has called on international actors to support joint efforts to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.

Pekka Haavisto was speaking at the TRT World Forum 2020's panel discussion titled, "New Realities and Interstate Relations After COVID-19," alongside Pakistani and Turkish counterparts.

He said every crisis brings out opportunities, and now is the time to unite as the international community needs each other to fight the outbreak.

Asked about the difficulties and challenges in containing the novel virus in the EU, the Finnish diplomat said the initial days resulted in panic but cooperation helped turn it around.

He went on to say that every individual has the right to be protected from the virus, and that global actors should jointly devise an action plan to end the pandemic, and mitigate its impact.

Saying that Europe welcomed refugees from many countries and endeavored to ensure their rights, he said the 27-member bloc attaches importance to the security of its citizens along with refugees, and is determined against terrorism.

Lessons to be learned from the virus spread could contribute to peace and prosperity around the world, he concluded.
