Flash flooding kills at least 7 in Vietnam
Torrential rains continue to soak northern mountain communities following unrelated flooding caused by Typhoon Nida

HANOI, Vietnam (AA) – Seven people have been reported killed in Vietnam after four days of torrential downpours brought severe floods to much of the far north.
The fatalities include three killed in landslides, three washed away by rushing water and one killed by lightning, reported the Central Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control on Monday.
The authorities also reported 19 houses and 512 hectares of rice destroyed.
The heavy rains follow unrelated flooding caused by Typhoon Nida, which caused days of storms in northern Vietnam after the typhoon made landfall in southern China on Aug. 2.
Four people were reported killed in a single night in northern Vietnam.
More floods are expected this week as the intertropical convergence zone crosses the region coupled with troughs from the Gulf of Tonkin, reported the local Tuoi Tre newspaper.
