Florida police on hunt for 3 suspects involved in Memorial Day shooting

HOUSTON, US (AA) - Police in Hollywood, Florida were on the hunt Tuesday for three suspects involved in a Memorial Day shooting that left nine people injured.

Two suspects are already in custody, according to multiple news outlets.

The beachside shooting took place in a crowded area which sent many people frantically running for cover as gunshots rang out.

Investigators said the shooting started after two groups got into an argument.

"It's unfortunate we have law-abiding citizens who come to our beaches and that gets interrupted by a group of criminals," said Police Chief Chris O'Brien in a statement.

Four of the victims were minors, with the youngest being a one-year-old, according to police. The other five victims were between the ages of 25 and 65.

Police said the two suspects already in custody were not the shooters, but investigators have already recovered five handguns, two of which were stolen.

"When you do something like this in broad daylight, with CCTV cameras up and down our broadwalk, you will be identified and you will be caught and brought to justice," said Hollywood Mayor Josh Levy during a news conference. "We're not going to tolerate this kind of behavior."

Three of the adult victims were treated and released with minor injuries, according to hospital officials. The other six victims remain in stable condition.​​​​​​​

Police have beefed up their presence in the area as they continue to search for the three remaining suspects.
