Football: Basaksehir retain lead in Turkish Super Lig

Runner-up Trabzonspor are 1 point behind leaders with one game in hand

ANKARA (AA) - With their latest win over Gaziantep FK on Monday, Medipol Basaksehir maintained their lead in Turkey’s premier football league.

Gael Clichy, Irfan Can Kahveci and Demba Ba netted the goals for the Istanbul side Basaksehir for a 3-1 win, as Gaziantep FK midfielder Kenan Ozer's goal was not enough for the away team to gain the game.

With this win, Basaksehir stood atop the Turkish Super lig with 49 points.

The second-standing Trabzonspor defeated Caykur Rizespor 5-2 in a Black Sea derby to secure 48 points in 23 games.

Galatasaray beat Genclerbirligi 3-0, while Fenerbahce salvaged a point in their game against Antalyaspor, with a goal in the stoppage time, making it 2-2.

Demir Grup Sivasspor reached 48 points with a 3-0 score in Sunday's away game against MKE Ankaragucu.

Leaders Basaksehir are followed by Trabzonspor, Galatasaray and Sivasspor with 48 points each.

Aytemiz Alanyaspor lost to Besiktas 2-1 and slipped to the sixth spot, while Besiktas jumped to the fifth place with 40 points.
