Football: Galatasaray crush Besiktas title hopes

2-0 victory keeps Galatasaray in the lead with 3 weeks to go

ANKARA (AA) - Galatasaray defeated Besiktas 2-0 Sunday evening at Turk Telekom Stadium in the Turkish Super Lig's 31st match week.

In front of some 50,000 fans, Galatasaray took advantage early on when Yuto Nagatomo's low driven cross found Fernando Reges inside the penalty area in the 22nd minute.

Besiktas's defender Dusko Tosic was sent off with a straight red card in the 65th minute.

Garry Rodrigues's powerful strike inside the penalty area in the 70th minute gave Galatasaray a 2-0 lead.

The victory kept Galatasaray in the lead as other title contenders Medipol Basaksehir and Fenerbahce did not stumble, winning against their opponents with 4-1 scorelines.

Besiktas are now in fourth place, four points behind Galatasaray, with three weeks to go.

Galatasaray have 66 points, Basaksehir, 65 points and Fenerbahce are third with 63 points.
