Football: Galatasaray crushes Alanyaspor

Lions demolish Alanyaspor 5-1 in Turkey's Spor Toto Super Lig match day 16, get closer to leaders Basaksehir

ANKARA (AA) - Galatasaray defeated Aytemiz Alanyaspor 5-1 in Turkey's Spor Toto Super Lig on Sunday evening, further narrowing the gap between the league leaders.

The match at Turk Telekom Arena saw the Lions find the first goal in the 30th minute with a header from midfielder Nigel de Jong, when Sneijder crossed the ball for an assist in a set piece.

However, Alanyaspor equalized the match in the 40th minute with a header goal from Sajad Shahbazzadehgalinbolagh.

Just before the midpoint, Alanyaspor broke the deadlock with an own goal, giving Galatasaray the 2-1 lead at halftime.

The second half belonged to the Istanbulite giants, behind Sneijder's marvelous performance. The Dutchman scored a goal and assisted three of Galatasaray’s five goals.

With the win, Galatasaray boosted their points total to 33 and stayed third in the league, also closing the gap with leaders Basaksehir to only three.

The league's first half will end with matches on the schedule. Tonight Genclerbirligi will host Bursaspor in Ankara at 7.00 p.m. local time (1600GMT), and Fenerbahce will go to the Black Sea city of Trabzon to take on Trabzonspor at 8.00 p.m. local time (1700GMT).
