Football: Galatasaray lose top spot in Ankara

Genclerbirligi beat Lions thanks to extra-time counter attack goal

ANKARA (AA) - Galatasaray have lost the leaders spot in Turkey's Super Lig after being defeated by Genclerbirligi 1-0 on Monday evening in the capital Ankara.

Genclerbirligi managed to topple Galatasaray thanks to an extra-time goal at the 91st minute, when Dutch winger Elvis Manu carried the ball on a counter attack, allowing Alper Uludag to sent the ball into the net on a one-on-one situation with goalkeeper Fernando Muslera.

The goal gave Genclerbirligi a much-needed victory, as the team is trying to avoid relegation.

The loss hurt Galatasaray as the Istanbul club are now at the second spot behind leaders Medipol Basaksehir. The two will meet next week at Galatasaray's home turf, Turk Telekom Stadium.
