ANKARA (AA) – German football club RB Leipzig hammered Mainz 8-0 in Saturday's Bundesliga match to set club record.

Leipzig's German star Timo Werner made a hat-trick at the Red Bull Arena as they tore apart Mainz.

Marcel Sabitzer, Christopher Nkunku, Marcel Halstenberg, Yussuf Poulsen, and Nordi Mukiele were the other scorers for Leipzig.

Werner has been in a good form in the Bundesliga as the 23-year-old forward scored nine goals in 10 league appearances this season.

Leipzig's previous biggest Bundesliga win was on Oct. 7, 2018 as they hit Nuremberg 6-0 at the Red Bull Arena.

Borussia Monchengladbach still have the all-time biggest win record in Bundesliga as they thrashed Borussia Dortmund 12-0 in April 1978, an embarrassing loss for Dortmund.

Following Saturday's emphatic win, Leipzig climbed to the third spot in the league table with 18 points.

After the week 10, Borussia Monchengladbach earned 22 points to top Bundesliga.

- Bayern Munich suffer heavy defeat

German football powerhouse Bayern Munich got a shocking away loss to Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Rampant Eintracht Frankfurt beat Bayern Munich 5-1 at the Commerzbank-Arena.

Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski was on duty as the Polish star netted the only goal for his team.

Filip Kostic, Djibril Sow, David Abraham, Martin Hinteregger, and Goncalo Paciencia were the scorers for Eintracht Frankfurt as visitors Bayern Munich tasted a heavy defeat.

Called "#LewanGOALski" on social media by Bayern Munich for his prolificacy in the offense, Lewandowski is this season's top scorer in Bundesliga with 14 goals in 10 league matches.

Title contenders Bayern Munich had 18 points to come fourth in the league table.

Bayern Munich built a powerful dynasty in the Bundesliga in the recent years. They won seven consecutive league titles since the 2012-2013 season, ending Borussia Dortmund's two season rule.
