Football: Manchester City renew Fernandinho's contract

ANKARA (AA) - Manchester City confirmed Tuesday the extension of Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho's contract until 2021.

Fernandinho "will remain at the Club until the summer of 2021, by which time he will have spent eight seasons at City," the English Premier League title contenders said on its website.

The Brazilian midfielder said he is happy to continue to play with Manchester City for one year.

“I have enjoyed every second of my time here. I never expected to build such a meaningful relationship with the Club and the fans, but it has happened, and I am grateful every single day," he said in the same statement. "I want to take this opportunity to put on record how grateful I am to my teammates and the backroom staff here at City. Without them, this deal would not be possible, so sincere thanks to every single one of them."

Having joined Manchester City from the Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk, the 34-year old player lifted three Premier League titles along with one FA Cup and four League Cups in England.

Fernandinho has been a vital part of team since 2013, scoring 23 goals and making 25 assists in 299 appearances for the English club.
