Football: Real Madrid sign Japanese teenager

Deal puts Spanish club’s recent spending in excess of €300 million

ISTANBUL (AA) - Real Madrid on Friday signed Japanese teenage midfielder Takefusa Kubo for the Spanish club's reserve team.

"Takefusa Kubo will come in to strengthen the Castilla ranks next season. The top level of the madridista academy are set to get their hands on one of the most promising youngsters in world football. A technically gifted and hugely talented attacking midfielder, he possesses wonderful vision, quick feet and has an eye for goal," the Spanish club said in a statement.

Kubo, who was born in June 2001, will join Real Madrid's Castilla reserve team.

The midfielder was playing for FC Tokyo last season and he scored 5 goals in 16 matches.

According to Spanish media, Madrid will pay €2million to Japanese side FC Tokyo for the player.

So far, Real Madrid signed Luka Jovic, Eden Hazard, Ferland Mendy, Eder Militao, Rodrygo Goes and Takefusa Kubo for next season.

Real Madrid signed defender Ferland Mendy, 24, from Lyon on Wednesday. The player has signed a contract with the club for the next six seasons, running to the 30th of June 2025.

The latest deal worth up to €48 million ($42.5 million) puts Real Madrid's recent spending in excess of €300 million ($265.7 million).

The club have already signed Belgian forward Eden Hazard from Chelsea, Serbian striker Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt and Porto defender Eder Militao.
