Moment of silence to be observed at Euro 2016’s first quarter-final game between Poland and Portugal Thursday evening

ISTANBUL (AA) – Europe's top football body UEFA has decided to hold a moment of silence at Thursday’s Euro 2016 quarter-final game in honor of victims of Istanbul’s airport terror attack, according to the Turkish Football Federation.

A moment of silence will be observed before the game between Poland and Portugal kicks off at 1900 GMT in Marseille, the federation said Thursday.

The decision was reportedly taken following efforts of the federation head, Yildirim Demiroren.

At least 44 people were killed and more than 200 injured when three assailants launched a gun-and-bomb attack at Istanbul’s Ataturk International Airport Tuesday night.

The attackers were identified Thursday as a Russian national from Dagestan in the north Caucasus, an Uzbek citizen and another from Kyrgyzstan, according to a prosecution source, who is familiar with the investigation but spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.

Turkey's Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said initial indications suggest Daesh was responsible for the attack.
