Shooter apparently commits suicide after attack in port city of Brest

LONDON (AA) – A gunman wounded two people in front of a mosque in France before committing suicide, local media reported on Monday.

The incident took place in front of the Mosquee Sunna de Brest in the port city of Brest.

Several shots were heard in front of the mosque Thursday afternoon when people were leaving the place of worship and two people, including the imam Rachid Eljay, were injured.

They were taken to a nearby hospital and both are “doing okay,” according to reports.

Police immediately launched a manhunt following the incident at the mosque in the city's Pontanezen neighborhood, but found the attacker dead as he is thought to have shot himself in the head near his car.

The suspect claimed responsibility on Facebook, according to a report by local daily Le Telegramme.

The investigation is continuing, according to police.
