PARIS (AA)- France will receive 400 refugees monthly from Greece, as part of the EU quota system agreed upon by European leaders in September, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said Thursday.
French authorities will offer Greece "to relocate 400 people on our territory," Cazeneuve said in a statement.
He noted that, as part of the EU relocation plan, 97 refugees had arrived in France from Greece and Italy this week. Cazeneuve indicated that 253 would arrive as of June 9.
Over 191,000 migrants or refugees have crossed into Greece and Italy since the beginning of 2016, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
President Francois Hollande said in March that France would respect its commitment to accommodate 30,000 refugees from “front-line” EU states, such as Greece and Italy, over two years.
