French defender Patrice Evra retires from football

French left wing, 38, confirms his retirement on social media accounts

ANKARA (AA) - French defender Patrice Evra on Monday announced his retirement from professional football.

Evra delivered the news through a video posted on his social media accounts.

The 38-year-old left wing played in several clubs, including the Premier League team Manchester United and Serie A giants Juventus.

In 699 games throughout his career, he scored 17 goals and made 50 assists.

Evre completed his move to Manchester United in 2006 after playing four seasons in Monaco and winning a French League Cup with the club in 2003.

He won five Premier League titles and three League Cups with Manchester United in addition to the 2008 Champions League title and the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup title during his 379-game spell at Old Trafford.

He joined Italian giants Juventus in 2014, won two league titles, two Coppa Italias, and one Italian Super Cup with the club.

After playing 21 games for French team Olympique Marseille from 2016 to 2018, Evra signed a contract with the Premier League club West Ham United on a free transfer in February 2018.

He only played five games with his last club.

Evra also made 81 appearances with the French national team and also served on France’s squad in five major tournaments, including three European championships and two World Cups.

He played in the 2016 UEFA European Championship final when the French national team lost the game against Portugal in Paris, France.
