ANKARA (AA) - British cyclist Chris Froome was officially named the champion of the 2011 Vuelta a Espana on Thursday after Spaniard Juan Jose Cobo was found guilty of a doping violation, according to the BBC.
The-38-year old Cobo was stripped of the 2011 'Vuelta a Espana' title due to biological passport violations between 2009 and 2011.
The retired Spanish cyclist was also banned for three years.
The decision handed Froome the second Vuelta a Espana title in his career.
The 34-year-old cyclist welcomed his new title on social media.
“Better late than never! The 2011 @lavuelta holds some very special memories for me,” he tweeted.
Froome could not compete in Tour de France this year due to serious injuries he suffered during a race in France last month.
The British rider has won the Tour de France four times in his career.
