Galatasaray's Uruguayan goalkeeper Fernando Muslera retired from international football on Thursday.

The Uruguayan national football team confirmed on X that Muslera, 37, will no longer play for La Celeste, announcing his retirement from the national team after 133 games and four FIFA World Cups.

Muslera helped Uruguay win the 2011 Copa America title.

The Uruguayan football body thanked the experienced goalkeeper in a video which features his saves for Uruguay and the dramatic penalty shootout against Ghana in the quarterfinals of the 2010 World Cup.

He saved two penalties of Ghana as Uruguay reached the semifinals over a 4-2 shootout victory to face the Netherlands in South Africa.

Muslera has been a Galatasaray goalie since 2011 and has played in at least 500 matches for the Istanbul giants. He is also the club's captain.

Last week, Muslera extended his contract with Galatasaray.
