Germany: Several dead in shooting at Munich mall

BERLIN (AA) – Several people have been killed on Friday after an unknown number of assailants opened fire in a shopping mall in the southern German city of Munich, according to local media.

German police said on Twitter that a major police operation was underway around the Munich Olympia shopping center, and urged citizens to avoid public places in central city.

German TV station N24 reported that at least three people had been killed.

A police spokesman told German press agency DPA that he feared many were injured, and several people were dead in the attack.

Munich police spokesman Thomas Baumann said the motivation of the attack was unclear and they were still searching for the suspect or suspects.
