ANKARA (AA) - Germany's annual consumer inflation was confirmed at 6.1% in May, according to data released on Tuesday.
"The rate of inflation has continued to slow but remains at a high level nevertheless," said Ruth Brand, president of the Federal Statistical Office or Destatis.
The figure was down from 7.2% in April, 7.4% in March, and 8.7% in February, Destatis data showed.
"The year-on-year increase in energy prices was much smaller in May, and food prices continued to be the biggest driver of inflation," she added
Energy prices increased 2.6% in May from a year earlier, easing from April's 6.8% hike mainly due to a base effect.
Food inflation was 14.9% in May, down from 17.2% in April.
On a monthly basis, Germany's consumer prices dropped 0.1% in May.
