By Enoch Fiifi Forson

ACCRA, Ghana (AA) - Ghanaian journalist Oheneba Boamah Bennie was sentenced Wednesday to 14 days in prison for contempt of court.

The Accra High Court issued the ruling brought against Bennie by the Attorney General Department.

Bennie, who works with capital radio station Power FM, made a series of threats to President Nana Akufo-Addo in a live video broadcast on Facebook after the 2020 election.

The reporter claimed that Akufo-Addo met eight justices of the Supreme Court and influenced the outcome of the election petition being heard by the top court.

The Attorney General told the court that Benny's remarks were aimed at discrediting the judiciary.

In addition to the sentence, the court fined Power FM 3,000 Ghanaian cedi ($468).

Neither the presidency nor any government official has commented on the ruling.
