MOSUL, Iraq (AA) - Mosul Governor Nofal al-Akoub on Wednesday was dismissed from his post amid corruption allegations, according to local officials.
In a statement, Hassan al-Sabawi, a member of Nineveh’s provincial council, said the decision to sack al-Akoub had been approved by a majority of council members.
Al-Sabawi attributed the move to al-Akoub’s involvement in "corrupt practices" and the "destruction public property".
In July, the Iraqi army recaptured Mosul, regional capital of Iraq’s northern Nineveh province, from the Daesh terrorist group following a nine-month siege.
